On October 17 2022, a Florida judge sentenced the Parkland school shooter to life in prison without parole. It’s been nearly five years since the shooting that killed 17 people and injured 17 others on Valentine’s Day. The then, 19-year-old gunman had pleaded guilty leaving a Jury to decide whether he would face life in prison or the death penalty.

The Marjory Stoneman Douglas school shooter was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, a judge ruled escaping the death penalty that was also on the table.

However, it is doubtful that this will be the end of the story. There is the possibility of appeals, and even if those are unsuccessful, just how long will the victims' families and survivors be stuck in a cycle of reliving the worst day of their lives before they can get some legal closure?
