In this episode, female law enforcement trailblazer, Jackie Malton - the real-life inspiration behind DCI Jane Tennison from the Prime Suspect series - joins the hosts of 'Stop the Killing'. Jackie recounts her journey as an openly gay woman detective in the 70s, 80s, and 90s in the male-dominated UK police service. She shares how she shattered glass ceilings, serving in the formidable flying squad, murder squad, and fraud squad, while simultaneously combating stigma and sexism. Jackie also played a pivotal role as a whistleblower against police corruption in the 1980s. Having battled alcohol addiction and emerging stronger, Jackie dedicated herself to working in prisons, helping inmates reform, and reconnect with their humanity. She has authored a book, 'The Real Prime Suspect', sharing more about her experiences.
